A Morning With Jade Cottee

Jade Cottee - Beauty Writer Turned Investor and Mother of Two

After working for top publications such as BYRDIE, Popsugar, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle & Cosmopolitan, Jade is now a mother to two young boys. She is passionate about self-care, health and beauty, and has built an engaged online community who revel in her beauty recommendations. We sat down with Jade to learn how she spends her mornings, her favourite beauty products and her morning skincare routine.

First thing you do when you wake?
I’m woken at stupid o’clock by my youngest son... so the first thing I do is bring him into my bed for a feed. The daily challenge is to keep him occupied and me horizontal — ideally long enough to keep him from waking my eldest son.
Tell us about morning skincare / beauty routine and why you use these products?
I have acne-prone skin and my biggest learning has been that congested skin needs hydration too! I rinse my face in the shower, then apply Cosrx Advanced Snail Power Essence to damp skin. Beauté Pacifique Puffy Eyes Gel is next, followed by Skinceuticals CE Ferulic (twice a week to combat pigmentation) and Beauté Pacifique Defy Damage. Once that’s all dried down I use a liberal application of Ultra Violette Supreme Screen. I spent far too much time in my youth being silly in the sun, so I’m doing my very best to prevent any future sun damage. Even if I’m spending the day indoors, 50+ is non-negotiable.
I keep my daily makeup minimal — Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz on brows, Chanel or ModelCo mascara, YSL Touché Eclat under my eyes and Mecca Max Off Duty Blush Stick on cheeks. I’m not a huge fan of foundation so rely on skincare and supplements to support my complexion.

What does a typical morning look like for you?
My darling husband gets the kids breakfast while I shower and get ready, then we switch. Breakfast for me is simple — toast, espresso and my vitamins! I add CILK Rose Extract to my water, it helps me sip more. I’m often rushing so anything that helps me drink more is necessary. After dropping Spencer at preschool, I head to a Pilates class then it’s off to work.

What beauty products do you keep in your handbag?
Ultra Violette Supreme Screen (for reapplication as needed), Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, Le Labo Noir 29 rollerball and — hang on, let me count — SEVEN lip products: Dior Lip Maximiser, Ultra Violette Sheen Screen, Mecca Max Pout Pop in Top Down, Mac Ruby Woo, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, Bite Beauty Agave and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.
