Waking up with Natalie Ferrari of @theparlourclovelly

If you have ever been to The Parlour Room or SELF there is one word that surely comes to mind - chic. The hidden oasis located in Sydney's suburb of Clovelly is owned by Natalie Ferrari, who is known to have created the home of Sydney's most sought after manicure. Here, she breaks down what a typical morning looks like as a Sydney-side business owner as well as what her version of self care is.

Tell us about yourself and what you do for a living?

My name is Natalie, I’m the owner and founder of The Parlour Room, a beauty destination with two salons, an online store and expert journal located here in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. As a trained MUA and background in beauty therapy, I stopped treating clients a little over two years ago so now my day-to-day is now largely focused on the business and operational side of things, ensuring The Parlour Room continues to be a luxurious experience for clients to relax and enjoy for all their favourite beauty treatments.

What does a typical morning look like for you?
A typical morning for me changes all the time. Prior to lockdown I would try to exercise and have my morning coffee before starting the work day which could be anything from meetings with my staff and salon manager, check-ins with the marketing team, responding to client enquiries and general day-to-day salon management. However at the moment with lockdown and going through my first trimester, things looks a LOT different. I still try to get up and exercise and move my body in some way to start the day, before checking-in with the staff to see how they’re going and respond to client enquiries and organising online orders.

Do you have any special rituals that you commit to daily? (Meditation, goal setting, drinking lemon water etc):

I don’t have any rituals however I do try to make a point of moving my body, switching offline and getting outdoors. It has such a positive impact on my day.

What is your version of self-care?
Self care to me is all about slowing down and allowing time for myself. Prior to lockdown & pregnancy I was always on the go, and felt like I was rushing everywhere. So for me, I would try to give myself time to slow down, breathe, have long showers and get outside in the fresh air. I love walking down to the ocean and breathing in that ocean air, it just makes everything better.

Current morning skincare routine:
My current morning skincare routine is very minimal. I start with a double cleanse using the IS Clinical cleansing complex, apply a vitamin C (I’m using the Emma Lewisham Skin Reset), moisturiser and SPF and then i’ll brush my hair and pull it back into a low pony or bun.

Your go-to makeup look?
I prefer to keep things minimal when it comes to makeup. I like to apply a very light coverage foundation first to smooth and even out the skin tone, I love the Chanel Les Beiges Eau De Tint -  it gives a beautiful fresh finish and doesn’t feel like you're wearing a full face. I’ll then apply a little bit of bronzer (Tom Ford) around the face and then use a blush on my cheeks, face and eyes to give a nice warm glow. To finish I'll use a tinted brow gel, mascara and tinted lip balm. Oh and never forget a creamy highlighter on the cheeks and corner of the eyes! It's the number one product to stop looking so tired! My favourite is the Mecca Glow Stick!

Your top 3 makeup products that are currently on high rotation?
Chanel Les Beiges Eau de tint, Dior Lip Glow & Mecca Glow Stick!

Most under-rated beauty tip?
It’s all about the base. Look after your skin. If you have a healthy and hydrated base then anything you put on top is going to look better. And don’t forget to tidy your brows. It makes applying eyeshadow SO much easier.

How does wellness play a role in your approach to beauty?
I’m a firm believer in that true beauty shines from within. Stress, both mental and physical, can be the root cause for a number of concerns so wellness, in the form of exercise and meditation, anything to help slow down, is really important for me to help keep everything in check. There’s a reason why when someone is happy they look like they are actually glowing!

Best beauty advice you ever received:
Look after your skin when you are young! Prevention is key. SPF everyday.

What beauty products do you always carry with you/ in your handbag?
At the moment it’s Go-to Lips, as well as whatever coloured lipstick I’m vibing incase I’m stuck out somewhere and need to dress up my look.
